Women Credits Her Second Career's Success To An All-Around Support System

Let's be honest.

Women serve as the foundation of their homes and families.

Anchors without which smooth sailing routines crumble and beautifully nurtured practices lose detail. As a result, they cannot and will not stop nurturing those aspects of their lives.

So, if a woman wants to return to work in order to nurture her creative side, she must do so in addition to her current roles. That is why, in order for a second career woman to find her way back to work, she requires a The Town Of SUPPORT.

That is how many determined women got their careers back on track.

''Life has mostly been difficult, from education to working in a corporate to striking work-life balances after marriage.

To Boost Your Confidence, Allow Us Give You A Brief Story Example.

In 2010, I began my career as a Management Trainee with Stan Chart in Mumbai. Marriage came calling in 2012, when I relocated to Kolkata, my hometown.

I took a break from my career to transition into this new phase. Six months in, I made the decision to leave the house and resume my career.

I had always worked in Wealth Management, a position that required me to meet sales targets while working irregular hours. Prior to marriage, I never worked double shifts or did any housework. I was perplexed and asked myself, "Can I manage a demanding banking job while also managing a household?"

It was an exhausting routine when I found a job as a Client Servicing Manager with IndusInd Bank. But, with the help of my in-laws, I breezed through the stage. Apart from putting in place the mid-day meal, I almost never had to contribute to any other household responsibility during my time with IndusInd, thanks to my mother-in-law.

My husband was transferred to Delhi for better opportunities after three years with IndusInd Bank. I quit and started over in a new city because I couldn't get a transfer.

I chose to return to wealth management because I did not want to jeopardize my career. Even with a one-month gap, it was difficult to find a comparable position. I'd applied to every bank in Delhi, but my hands were empty.

Finally, a position as a Wealth Manager with Axis Bank came as a blessing. My day would begin with meal preparation and packing, especially for my husband, who would leave at 7 a.m. I'd get to the office by 9 a.m., and when I got home in the evening, I'd pick up where I'd left off in the morning, cooking dinner, washing the clothes, and getting ready for the next morning!

Each day and night passed in this manner... without pause.

I never stopped missing my mother-in-law, who was one of the most supportive figures when we were all living together!

This restart, too, was cut short when motherhood knocked on my door.

Since then, my husband has gone above and beyond to assist me with all aspects of household management.

My job required extensive travel within the city, which was affecting my health. So I took a break and went to my mother's house in Kolkata for the delivery. Staying away from my husband during this time was extremely difficult, but it was necessary for the sake of our child's health.

Because I had no support system in place when my son was born in 2016, I was unable to return to work right away. I was in Delhi, while our parents were both in Kolkata. It was a difficult decision, but I wasn't going to sit still. I'd decided to be a stay-at-home parent.

We moved to Mumbai when my son was two years old.

Ah! I can't express how happy it makes me to be back where I started! This time, I just wanted to get started. My job search began when I asked my in-laws to move in with us.

I had to face rejections despite having 7 years of banking experience.

WHY?

Because my resume contained a 2-year gap.

However, my husband soon found himself in the position of Placement Associate for SPJIMR's Post Graduate Management Programme for Women. And before long, I was hired.

My day now begins at 5.30 a.m., when I prepare the meals for the day, pack our lunch dabbas for work, my son's snacks for playgroup, and do a few odd jobs around the house. I leave around 8:15 a.m. to get to work by 10 a.m.

I do everything I can before I leave to make it easier for my mother-in-law, who helps me tremendously with my son's upbringing - from getting him ready for school to dropping and picking him up, his food, and oh... the list is endless!

I couldn't have imagined going back to work without the presence of my mother-in-law.

I believe that every woman requires this type of support system in order to resume her career.

My husband adores the fact that I work. In fact, he was never fond of my staying at home.

I appreciate SPJIMR's women-friendly policies, which have assisted me in striking a work-life balance. I have the freedom to choose my work hours as long as I clock in for 8 hours per day. My boss is very supportive and gives me the freedom I need to work freely.

In fact, women make up 70% of the workforce at SPJIMR, with the majority of them being female returnees!

SPJIMR provides induction, training, and workshops to help employees improve their employability.

I am a firm believer in a solid all-around support system as the foundation for resuming your career. From your spouse to your in-laws, parents, employers, and bosses."
