How Do You Get a Video Interview During a Crisis

How Do You Get a Video Interview During a Crisis

To keep applicants safe from the outbreak, organisations are shifting recruitment procedures online and replacing face-to-face interviews with video interviews, according to various industry sources.

To ensure the safety of applicants, many Indian organisations are considering conducting initial screening online and limiting visitors to their offices. It is becoming more difficult as the benefits of video interviews grow. Candidates may be self-conscious about how they appear on video and how they express themselves virtually.

Many businesses are turning to video interviewing as a new platform to better manage the time of recruiters and hiring managers and save money on travel expenses.

So, if you don't want to fail your screen test, here are a few pointers to get you ready for the close-up:

1) Be Mindful Of Your Etiquettes:

Although you may not be able to shake hands with an interviewer, you can always warmly greet the interview panel before the interview begins. Throughout the conference, try to keep your cool and, most importantly, look directly into the camera. Avoid distractions, as maintaining eye contact with the camera is critical, and recruiters view it as a sign of negligence.

2) Get Ready:

Preparation is essential for video interviews, just as it is for traditional interviews. Make sure you have a lot of information about the prospective employer as well as the position you want. You must also be familiar with the quirks of video conferencing. Make sure you have a lightning-fast internet connection and, if possible, run a mock test before the big day.

3) Be Aware Of Your Surroundings:

Clear your cluttered room before your interview begins. Choose a quiet and clean corner of your home with no or little background scenery. Remember that the interviewer isn't interested in seeing your house. Find a simple background and focus the camera on you. Make an effort to keep background noise to a minimum during the interview.

4) Behave Professionally:

Simply avoid being casual during the conference to project the image of a true professional. Candidates sometimes forget that the interview is a formal interaction because it takes place in a place where they feel at ease. You should avoid looking bored, yawning, leaning back, wriggling, or looking away from the camera for more than a brief moment during a video interview. When you are in the interview, you must act as if you are in the interviewer's office rather than at home.

5) Formal Attire:

Even if you are conducting the interview from home, you should dress formally. You may believe that because you are on camera, you can get away with only wearing a professional top and no bottom.

6) Maintain Concentration:

During your video interview, be present. Resist the urge to multitask while sitting in front of your computer. Close any additional screens that may appear and distract you during the interview. Turn off your phone as well.

7) Be Truthful & Open:

It can be tempting to cheat during your virtual meeting if there is no scrutiny outside the confines of your camera. During the video interview, candidates may plan to replace their research with Googling. In practise, however, an employer can easily detect when an applicant is distracted. If you require assistance, keep a list of key points handy for future reference.
